Getting started.

Get started with these 3 steps and take your learning outdoors with the SKNOWLEDGE Collective!
Time: ~ 30 minutes / week
Dates: Mid-November to Mid-May
1.  READ THE QUICK-START GUIDE
Read the step-by-step instructions that outline the data collection protocol, along with the backgrounder. Visit the resources page for lesson plans and other supplementary materials.

2.  GATHER MATERIALS
You'll need a thermometer and metre stick/ruler for each group of students, and access to devices with an internet connection. Don't forget warm clothes, you'll be heading outside next!

Are you an Educator located in Canada? If you require metre sticks & thermometers, submit a request for a toolkit shipped directly to you!

3.  COLLECT MEASUREMENTS AND RECORD OBSERVATIONS
Each SKNOW day, collect 10 sets of observations (i.e. snow depth, temperature) at different locations around the field or school yard (Figure 1).  Use the data collection worksheets then follow the prompts in the online survey to share your SKNOWLEDGE!

Figure1. Consider the shape of your field. Distribute observations spatially to capture the snow variability in the field using the suggested observation locations as a guide. Note, each snowflake represents a unique location in your field.

Lastly, mark your Calendar and never miss a SKNOW day!
